... I wrote the majority of this blog Oct. 23, 2018 and never hit "publish" and it echoes the sentiments felt by so many of us this year of 2020- so I hope it blesses you as it was a sweet reminder for me- and I would come to publish to Nov. 23, 2020, what a timely word.
The woman at the well in John 4- was telling Jesus about how great the well she had was, probably thinking that it had the ability to quench her thirst and satisfy her needs. She was so focused on the provision she established for herself that she failed to realize that she was talking to Jesus, the Living Water Himself. The One who had the ability to quench her thirst (once and for all), the One if she abided in would satisfy every one of her needs. This is so familiar to me- maybe you- how many times have we thought that a particular "well" or thing, a person, a relationship, a job, a place or thing had the ability to satisfy us---- and even a step further, then we get that thing- we realize that it was only a temporary fix.
You see if the woman at the well looked to Jesus, she'd find Him and land on the best well that would quench every desire she'd ever have. This is just a beautiful reminder for us to examine what have we been looking to for contentment. And understanding that nothing can quench our thirst quite like Jesus can.
As we wrap up the year, let's keep your eyes and appetite on God. Let's give Him our plans, our hearts, our hunger- understanding His plans for our lives are even greater than our own! The thirst that is quenched of God is everlasting. The Bible says in Psalm 1:2-3 that those ..."whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night that person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither-- whatever they do prospers." Man, what a promise! The Bible also promises us a peace that we can not get from the world (John 14:27). That's what I want.
So may we rest in knowing the well we ought to be drinking from is of HIM, and what a difference that makes. No preservations, no conditions, no side effects, all pure, all good, all holy, all peace, and that joy only comes from Him and in Him. Abide in Him today.
With so much love,
